Keys to Controlling Bad Breath (Halitosis) - 3. Maintain Tongue Hygiene

Cleaning the Tongue Is Important

Tongue cleaning is the key to preventing bad breath. To maintain a fresh breath, the tool for cleaning the tongue is important. Pick a toothbrush with a tongue cleaner. After carefully cleaning your upper and lower teeth with anti-bacterial toothpaste, flip the toothbrush and place the tongue cleaner on the back of the tongue, move forward to tipping of the tongue and repeat in the middle and left (this action is called scraping). After cleaning the tongue surface, rinse mouth and tongue brush with warm water to remove odor-causing bacteria.

Note: Consult a dentist or dental hygienist when choosing an oral hygiene tool to help remove plaque and odor-causing bacteria, and review your oral routine at home. You should also seek advice from dental experts on which oral hygiene products (antibacterial toothpaste, antibacterial mouthwash, tongue brush or tongue scraper, and cleaning appliances to clean between the teeth) to use to help eliminate bad breath.

To ensure fresh and clean breath, regularly implement good oral hygiene habits at home and follow advice dental professionals have discussed with you.
